Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, the US has seen a sharp increase in incidents of xenophobia and anti-Asian bigotry. According to California State University’s Center for the Study of Hate and Extremism, Los Angeles saw a 114% increase in hate crimes in 2020. With the recent killing of 6 Asian American women in Atlanta, we are again reminded that the fight for racial justice is ongoing.
LimNexus extends its condolences to the families of the victims of the Atlanta tragedy and condemns all acts of violence perpetuated against Asian Americans.
The violence and hate-related attacks are sadly no surprise. A history of anti-Asian bigotry, the forever “foreigner” stereotype, fear, scapegoating, and recent rhetoric by those in positions of power have all contributed to this unfortunate time.
LimNexus believes that the promise of equality and justice for all can be won when we stand in solidarity with one another. The call to action to all of us, including the legal community, is to stand against all forms of bigotry, hate and violence. Stand as an ally and show no tolerance for acts or words that seek to fan the flames of hate. We must set aside our differences of race, ethnicity, religion, and politics and rise peacefully and purposefully to work for racial and social justice for all. LimNexus stands with the Asian American community and will continue to support organizations that work to address racism and xenophobia and help to create safe communities for everyone. If you would like to support our efforts to fight racial animus against Asians, you may donate to the LimNexus Foundation, a nonprofit 501(c)(3), and designate your contribution for the “Social Justice Fund.”*
We can no longer be silent or a passive witnesses. Raise your voice and report incidents of hate.
