Lim Ruger’s second annual Women@theTable panel series commenced on May 6, 2015 to a full house, with over 65 guests attending. A distinguished panel of three experienced judges spoke candidly about gender differences they personally observed during court appearances and at trial. Although perceptions varied, a common theme among the panel’s observations from the bench is that women are often less assertive than men in the courtroom. The judges also shared invaluable insights on how women lawyers can become more effective advocates in the courtroom and at trial. Unanimously, the judges agreed that women lawyers who work hard and are prepared for courtroom appearances should display commensurate confidence and assertiveness when they appear to advocate for their clients.
